Dear
Friends,
We
finished the semester with a hike to hanging lake and an end of the year
BBQ on campus. We
are thankful for all that God has done our first semester on campus!
Thank you for partnering with us in this important work of
evangelism, discipleship, and leadership development among college
students at Mesa State.
Our goal at the end of the semester was to finish
strong and to prepare students to grow
spiritually over the summer.
Philippians
3:13-15 says, “Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have
taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and
straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize
for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.”
We
challenged students to write out an overall summer plan for
staying strong and growing spiritually in their prayer life, quiet times,
Bible reading, evangelism, etc. It is important for both us as staff and for the students to
keep vision over the summer and for next semester.
Summer
time can present many challenges for students
who are going home to friends and family that will not understand the
positive changes that have taken place.
Others will be going on summer projects or working at camps.
Please continue to pray for our students over the summer for these
specific challenges.
Pray that they will be an effective witness for
Jesus Christ in their summer jobs.
Classes have been out for almost a month now.
We have continued our TNL (Tuesday Night Live) meetings over the
summer for students who are in town.
Please pray that these students will mature in their understanding
of how to study the Bible, and that they will be challenged by our
study of 1 Timothy.
Please
pray specifically for Elliot, Nathan, and Cara.
Elliot and Cara have visited us during summer TNL because they are
incoming freshmen at MSC this coming fall.
Nathan is a college age guy that just moved from Denver.
He was hoping to find a group of people his age to fellowship with.
He recently commented, “I’m so thankful to have found this group.
I really didn’t know if I would find anything like this.”
Our
ultimate prayer for them is to mature in their relationship with Jesus and
have the ability to help others mature.
One
thing that helps us as staff build a strong vision for campus ministry is
our annual staff retreat.
The week after classes let out, we got together with the rest of our
staff at Ft. Lewis College for a week of refreshment, fellowship,
brainstorming new ways to reach our campuses, and taking care of work
projects around our lodge.
Some of the main topics we discussed were: current
trends of today’s society (especially among college students),
how
to stay in the ministry for the “long haul,”
what
gives us hope,
relationships
that help or hurt,
and “we
are in a race.”
Praise God that He has given us such an encouraging staff team!
Please
keep these items in prayer this summer:
The Students Continue
to pray for Sean who is on a summer project with Campus Crusade for
Christ, and for Hope who is working at a
Christian camp. Pray for
students who are working and for those who are going home for
the summer. Pray for those who are in Grand
Junction, that we will be able to help them grow over the summer.
Pray for Zach and Jessica, two of our key students that were
just married
on June 8. We are very proud of
them and are confident they will have an effective ministry together!
Summer
Activities
We have
several events planned this summer for the students, including going to a
free concert, camping,
swimming, etc. Pray that these
events will be glorifying to Christ and a time of building unity.
Staff conference, July 19-26
We will be
joining thousands of Campus Crusade for Christ Staff
for this conference in Ft. Collins,
CO.
Please pray that this will be a time of strengthening and building
vision for campus ministry.
Leadership Retreat, August
16-19 We
will be planning the fall semester out with our leadership students (which
we call the
Servant Team). It will also be
a time of building vision and focusing on how to reach the campus.
Trusting in Him,

Jesse and Rhonda
