Dear
Friends,
It’s not an easy task to
describe Denver Christmas Conference. One
moment you have 2,000 animated college students worshipping God through
singing, the next moment you have a silent auditorium while gifted
speakers deliver stretching and challenging messages. There’s
also the “Day of Faith”, where students saturate the city of Denver to
share their faith and show God’s love to hundreds of people.
Thank you all for praying
for DCC 2007! We were
able to take five students from Mesa State to
DCC, and we also met up with our Master Plan Ministries sister campus,
Ft. Lewis College in Durango, CO. As you may remember, DCC is a huge
conference put on by Campus Crusade for Christ where students come from
campuses all over the Midwest. The theme of this year’s conference was
“Fearless.” Students were
challenged to become fearless in
their walk with Jesus Christ by developing a
stronger prayer life, realizing that we are in a battle, memorizing
scripture, and developing a life of purity and passion. Students
were also challenged to be fearless
by considering going on a stateside or international summer mission
project.
Day of Faith at DCC
Many
students share their faith for the first time during the Day of Faith.
Students break up into groups of five and are given a specific
assignment somewhere in Denver. They then have a chance to serve people
in the community by cleaning houses, shoveling snow, buying a homeless
person a meal, etc. The ultimate goal is to get into spiritual
conversations with the people we come in contact with throughout the
day. Here are a few of our stories!
Jesse:
The group I led was given an assignment to go to a specific home and
simply ask if there was anything we could do to help them. After
catching the wrong bus, we made it to the address we were given. We
soon discovered that the owner of the home spoke only Spanish, so we did
our best to communicate with her through her son, Angel. We offered to
shovel her driveway for her and she accepted. We spent the next three
hours shoveling and picking away the snow and ice. Although we were not
able to share the Gospel verbally, we know that God will use this act of
service.
Rhonda: The
group I led was also headed to a specific residence. At the apartment
we went to, we met Juana
and her 4 children. As the students were
helping rearrange Juana’s furniture, I was able to get into a
conversation with Louizza, Juana’s daughter. Louizza is 15 and far
along in pregnancy. Louizza shared with me that she was thinking about
putting her baby up for adoption. Through this
conversation, I was able to share about God’s love for His people in
that we are all God’s adopted children when we accept Christ as our Lord
and Savior. God opened a door and I was able to share the entire
gospel with Louizza. Please pray that this young girl would invite
Christ into her life. Pray that her child would grow up in a home
experiencing God’s love.
Joel and Faith (also in Rhonda’s group) were able to get into a
spiritual conversation with Juana. Faith handed Juana a flyer from the
church we were representing, which sparked an interest. Pray that Juana
would come in contact with more Christians who will show her God’s love.
Support News:
Before DCC, we struggled with the decision about
whether or not to attend the conference. We knew that it would be a
great time to be refueled and to develop relationships with students,
but we also knew that our primary responsibility was to continue raising
support. After praying and talking with our campus directors, we came
to the decision that we would go to DCC- but also continue to develop
our support team while we were there.
God is exceedingly
faithful. During the conference, we set aside time to focus
specifically on contacting businesses, churches and individuals.
We started the conference at 74% and ended the
conference at 82% of our monthly support! As we write this
letter, we are now at 85%. There
are approximately two weeks before classes start up again. Please
continue to pray that God will provide the remaining 15% (or $462 per
month) quickly so we can begin our work on campus.
Because of His Faithfulness,

Jesse and Rhonda Denison |

“Your
kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and your dominion endures through
all generations. The Lord is faithful to all his promises and
loving toward all he has made. The Lord upholds all those who fall
and lifts up all who are bowed down. The eyes of all look to you,
and you give them their food at the proper time.”
